My Philosophy
My philosophy of counseling is multidimensional. I start with where you are and what you are experiencing, and not where others think you should be. I utilize several counseling theories and techniques, and encourage you to work with me in therapy to set, and reach your goals. I am always honored when someone chooses me as their therapist and work hard to help you reach your goals.
It is my belief that we are physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual beings. I believe that you will get the most out of therapy when you address as many of these dimensions as are troublesome to you. I have the training to bring spirituality into therapy if you would like to do so, or to leave it out entirely, whichever you are most comfortable with. I adhere to the cliche, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."
My Experience
I have two independent licenses issued by the State of Ohio. The first is a PCC, Professional Clinical Counselor, and the second is an LICDC, Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor. I am also Certified in Family Therapy. I received a Master's Degree in Clinical Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from The Ohio State University. These credentials, and my extensive experience, allow me to counsel adults, adolescents, and families in a very comprehensive way, not always found with other therapists. I have treated acute stress, addictions (alcohol, drug, sexual), anxiety, bereavement, career concerns, conduct disorder, depression, divorce, forgiveness issues, grief and loss, marriage and relationship problems, oppositional/defiant disorder, panic disorder, self-esteem problems and spiritual difficulties for over 30 years.
I have worked as a supervisor in a private practice employing two doctors and five therapists, and as a therapist in two hospitals. I have worked at the graduate school level, teaching masters students counseling skills. I have also had extensive experience in public sector counseling. I am very comfortable with clients of all social and economic backgrounds, having worked with doctors, lawyers, nurses, various other professionals, high school and college students, as well as those less fortunate without many resources.
